Thursday Night Youth EAB As a new month we begins so does a new Thursdays Youth Earn-A-Bike class. The Thursday Youth EAB allows students aged 10 -15 to learn the ins and outs of bike mechanics. The class consist of 4 sessions and begins the first Thursday of each month. When complete participants ride away with a basic understanding of bike maintenance, safe riding skills and a bike of their own to keep.
The 4 week sessions consist of 4 Thursday night classes. Beginning the first Thursday of every month, we'll meet at the shop from 5 PM to 8 PM. Prior bicycle mechanical skills are not necessary, but students should be comfortable riding a two wheeled bike. All tools and working bikes/materials will be provided by Community Cycles.

After School Program at the Family Learning Center Community Cycles in conjunction with the Family Learning Center at San Juan del Centro conducts after school bike classes. Each class meets on Wednesdays for 8 weeks and teaches participants the rules of the road, map reading and bike maintenance. Each class is a combination of bike riding and maintenance. When finished students pick bikes to keep as their own.
One of the main reasons a bicycle isn't ridden is it has a flat. Because of this we make sure each student has several opportunities to fix a flat during the class. In fact at the end of the 4th class students are sent home with a small toolbox and a tire pump. Their homework for that week is to find a flat tire or two in their neighborhood and fix them.
This class can be repeated as many times as the student likes as long as they bring their tool box to each session. Kids who repeat may exchange their bike for another one or upgrade the one they earned last time. Each time the class is repeated students acquire more tools for their box.
Thanks to Paul DesRosiers and the Beanstalk foundation for the generous gift in support of this program.
