2013 Social Bike Rides

Rides are the third Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.  They are free and open to all members.  Non-members may attend one ride as our guest.  Helmets are required.  Rides cover a variety of distances and terrain; check descriptions for details.  These are social no-drop rides.  Bike rides are a great way to learn Boulder’s bike network and meet your fellow cyclists!

Wednesday, April 17 – Pedal East Boulder Paths

6 PM at CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000
Boulder, CO 80301

Experience some of the lesser-known bike paths of East Boulder!  We'll start at the Community Cycles main shop at 6:00 PM, and ride generally south through CU's East Campus to the East Boulder Rec Center.  We'll then head northeast almost to the Stazio Ballfields and bend west to take in the scene at the Valmont Bike Park before returning to Community Cycles.  We'll go about 10 miles, almost entirely on paved off-street bike paths.  Our whole adventure should take about 90 minutes.

Saturday, April 20 – Meet Boulder Food Rescue
10 AM at west parking lot of Sprouts
2525 Arapahoe Ave
Boulder, CO 80302
Come meet Boulder's bicycle-powered just-in-time food rescue service. Along the way we'll explore some of Boulder's lesser-known bike routes and connections.  Meet at 10 AM at the west parking lot of Sprouts on Arapahoe.  We'll ride 10 miles, touring a handful of Boulder Food Rescue's community partners and stopping for a brief introduction to the organization punctuated by rescued refreshments (including bike blended smoothies)!  We'll also drop by the Community Cycles main shop to let folks get acquainted with our programs.  We'll finish on the Creek Path at 17th Street by noon.

Wednesday, May 15 – Family Spring Fling
4 PM at CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000
Boulder, CO 80301

We'll start from the Community Cycles main shop at 4 PM, and take a ten mile tour of Boulder's beautiful off-street bike paths. The pace will be slow. Refreshments and snacks provided for after the ride. Trailers and tag-a-longs welcome!

Saturday, May 18 – Discover the LoBo Trail
12 noon at CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000
Boulder, CO 80301

We'll start from the Community Cycles main shop at noon, and ride to Longmont on the Longmont-Boulder ("Lobo") regional trail. Most of the ride will be on soft-surface paths through Gunbarrel, Niwot, and all the way to Longmont. We'll finish at Oskar Blues, where we can have a bite before returning to Boulder on the BOLT bus. Our ride should take about 1.5 hours (it's 13 miles), so we'll get back to Community Cycles about 2:30. Don't forget to bring $4.00 exact change for the bus back!  Or ride back the way we came (not part of official ride).

Saturday June 15 – Beginners Trail Ride with BMA
12 noon at CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000
Boulder, CO 80301

Come try out mountainbiking!  We'll start at the Community Cycles main shop at noon, and ride to the Eagle Trailhead near Boulder Reservoir.  We'll ride the Eagle/Sage loop, plus an out-and-back to Lefthand Valley Reservoir, and then return to Community Cycles.  Our total distance will be about 18.5 miles, about half on roads and half on singletrack trails. These trails are relatively easy to ride, great for beginning mountainbikers.  We'll be out about 2.5 hours.

Wednesday, June 19 – Bike to Bands on the Bricks
5 PM at Central Park
Broadway and Canyon
Boulder, CO 80302

The bike ride will be a leisurely ride starting at 5 PM at Central Park between Broadway and 13th, by the Boulder Creek Path.  We'll stay on the bike path for an easy going ride west and south, and we'll end up back at Bands on the Bricks around 6:30 or 7 PM, depending on the group speed.  Arrive early if you want to purchase a snack at Farmer's Market and bring your dancing shoes for Bands on the Bricks!

Wednesday July 17 – Farmers’ Market Munch and Ride
5 PM at Central Park - Grassy area between band shell and market
Broadway and Canyon
Boulder, CO 80302

This will be one of our more athletic rides.  Ride to the top of Chapman Drive (1000' climb, 7% smooth gravel grade) accompanied by a sound system!  Bring snacks to enjoy at the top.  Things may change if the trail is muddy.

Boulder, CO 80301

This ride is designed to welcome the ten-and-under set. We'll start at the Community Cycles main shop at 9 AM to beat the heat. We'll ride on paved off-street paths to Scott Carpenter Park, where we'll break for snacks (bring your own) and playground time. Older and more experienced kids may add a journey along off-street paths to Martin Park. We'll finish up back at the shop by 10:30. Trailers and tag-a-longs encouraged!

Wednesday, August 21 – South Boulder Loop
6 PM at CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000

This ride is slow and suitable for beginning roadies.  Pedal fifteen miles on paths and some wide-shoulder road to the Marshall Mesa trailhead and back to the shop.  Add an optional two or four mile hill climb if you're feeling your oats.  Expect to take 90 minutes.  Riders may choose to finish the fun with food (you've earned it!) at Boulder Beer, near the shop.

Wednesday, September 18 – Farmers’ Market Munch and Ride
5PM at Central Park - Grassy Area between Bandshell and the Market
13th and Canyon
Boulder, CO 80302
Come explore some of the lesser traveled pathways near downtown.  Be ready for a bit of dirt, fun and sharing of ways around Boulder.  We'll be back by 7:00 so you can get munchies before the ride or afterwards, before the market closes at 8.

Saturday, September 21 – Tour de Co-ops
11am at
CC's main shop
2805 Wilderness Pl Ste 1000
Boulder, CO 80301

Gathering folks for goofy fun for about 7.5 miles around town, ending at North Boulder Park at ~1pm. Bring a dish or beverage to share, your own picnic place-settings,  sporty balls, games picnic blankets, etc. A large bike trailer with icy cooler will carry the food and what-nots.  You'll still need to be able to take your things home with you at the end of the picnic so don't forget your own panniers or other cargo carrying devices of choice.
