Earn-A-Bike (EAB) Builds a Greener and more Bike-Friendly Boulder.
The Earn-A-Bike program has gotten over 1,500 low-income friends and neighbors on bikes since 2006!
How Does It Work?
Earn-A-Bike works in three steps:
Get to know Community Cycles and the community work-space. You can take our online orientation or sign up for a live orientation.
Volunteer two shifts at Community Cycles.
Take a Fix-A-Flat clinic or an EAB Mechanics 101 course (included in your Earn-A-Bike fee). These classes are taught on alternating Monday evenings.
After finishing your volunteer hours and classes, we will outfit you with a refurbished bike, a lock, a helmet and a six-month Community Cycles membership.
Bikes are typically late-20th-century mountain bikes.
- Your own bicycle!

You may be eligible for a fee waiver (see below).
Who is eligible?
Earn-A-Bike is for low-come participants who are 16 and older and who do not own a bike. To earn a bike, you must meet the following annual income criteria.
Single | $22,500 or less 2-person family | $28,600 or less 3-person family | $34,700 or less
If you do not meet the income criteria, please consider purchasing one of our refurbished bikes.
People referred from a social services agency, currently receiving services, may be eligible for a fee waiver. Come into our shop during open hours to discuss options for a fee waiver.
How long does it take?
Our goal is for you to complete the program within one month. If that time frame doesn’t fit your needs, you can purchase a bike at our shop, along with a membership to Community Cycles, and take classes and workshops to keep learning about your bike!

A graduate says:
“I have benefited enormously from this program! I could not afford a bicycle, and I was not very knowledgeable about them.”
“I have saved a lot of money on fuel, and I use my car so little. I enjoy the health benefits of bicycling, and I also get to see and interact with my neighborhood.”
