The Broncos have it. The Governor has it. COVID is awful.
So far Community Cycles staff and volunteers remain healthy, for which we are thankful. We want to keep it that way so everyone can enjoy the upcoming holidays as much as possible.
In light of yet another predicted spike in cases for Boulder County in the coming weeks, Community Cycles is choosing to postpone our 15th annual Kids Holiday Bike Giveaway until it is safer to come together.
While our annual Kids Holiday Bike Giveaway would be able to meet the letter of the Boulder County mandate for outdoor gatherings, our staff and volunteers would still be in potential contact with hundreds of people over the course of multiple weekends to give away 300 bikes to low income families throughout the Boulder area. With that much potential contact, we would not be meeting the spirit of the mandate.
We can’t ask our staff and volunteers to risk their health in this way, and we don’t want to be part of increasing the disease in our community.
Under the strong leadership of our Executive Director Sue Prant, Community Cycles has stayed open after an initial 8 week closure, albeit with limited services. But open nonetheless! We hope to keep our staff and volunteer crew healthy and our doors open through the winter season so that we can expand services back to more normal levels when risk levels allow, hopefully by spring.
The Kids Holiday Bike Giveaway is such a joyous event for all involved, one we eagerly anticipate each year.
We look forward to a time where we can all be together to celebrate the joy of giving away bicycles to kids. We plan to reschedule the event for April 2021, in time for Boulder Valley School District’s Bike to School Day.
If you have made a donation towards the funding of this event, please know your dollars will be held towards the event that is rescheduled for April. Your donations make this event possible — and we thank you!
And you can still donate towards the future date: https://communitycycles.org/khbg-donate/
Families who registered for the event will receive a certificate so they have something to put under the tree.
