New Parking-Protected Bike Lanes on University

BikeNonProfitNews

Boulder cycles forward!  The City of Boulder has built parking-protected bike lanes along University Avenue between Broadway and 9th. The city basically swapped the positions of the existing standard bike lane and the curb-side car parking. The bike lane now runs in a safe, quiet corridor between the curb and the row of parked cars. There is a “door zone” space to allow room for passenger-side door opening without interfering with bike travel.

This project is part of Boulder’s “Living Laboratory” trial of new types of bike infrastructure. The change is not guaranteed to be permanent, so try out the new lanes and send your feedback to the City. We are working to bring more physically protected bike lanes to our community soon!
