A Conversation with Sanitas Brewing’s Michael Memsic: Supporting Cycling Through Beery Goodness

BikeNonProfitNews

As a non-profit cycling organization, Community Cycles creates opportunities to make cycling more accessible. Our goal is to raise $25,000 before December 31.

This year Michael Memsic, co-founder of Sanitas Brewing, is helping us out with a chance to win a bar tab at Sanitas Brewing if you donate at least $50 to our year end campaign. Sanitas has built a team of bold, spirited and adventurous individuals working together to bring you a tasty beverage to enjoy in the company of their tap room, to accompany you to our neighboring Rocky Mountains or sip in the comfort of your own home.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Michael last week and find out what he’s up to and his views on the local cycling scene:

Michael, you seem to have a passion for community and hosting a multitude of people at the brewery. Where did you find that passion for bringing people together?

My passion for building community arose early on in life. I was always an extroverted kid growing up, looking for the next thing to do. That followed me into college, and into my early years with beer. When I got into the beer industry, I knew I had a passion for growth and building community. I began creating what we now call “bring-you-together beer”, beer you can share with friends that leaves you wanting another in a space that provides the Best Patio in Boulder.

Community Cycles is jazzed to partner with you on this project. Tell us a little bit about why you’re passionate about the work Community Cycles does in Boulder?

I love the work you guys do towards promoting safe use of bicycles for transportation. We have a huge biking community that are regulars to Sanitas, so supporting their safety and access to resources like you provide with Community Cycles is in turn a great resource for our patrons. We even host a weekly Tuesday Night Sanitas Bike Ride with our friend and former employee Chris Blick during the spring, summer and early fall months. During these rides, attendees can pick between two 8-10 mile group rides across Boulder, complete with a free post ride beer in the taproom. We look forward to getting more involved in the biking community as we continue to grow!

If people walk away knowing one thing about Sanitas Brewing, what would you want that to be?

At Sanitas we strive to build community through patios and pints. Making good beer and providing a great space for people to enjoy them in. We’ve heavily developed our patio over COVID to now be the Best Patio in Boulder. We consider our space to be the “third space” to many, acting as someone’s go-to spot for learning about beer with others, having a beer while co-working from the taproom or just enjoying a beer with the company of friends. We want our guests to walk away feeling welcomed and excited for their next visit!

Year End Donations

This year we are going “all in” with fabulous local partners to show donors how much we appreciate them. Major recognition goes to Sanitas Brewing and Taylor Phinney for supporting this year-end campaign.

To show our commitment to you, our donors, we’ve whipped up a little something to help make a lasting impact. When you support us, every $50 donated will earn an entry to win one of three prizes:

  1. A bar tab worth $100 for you and your friends to enjoy Sanitas Brewing. Have you seen this patio!?
  2. A gravel ride (PLUS lunch) with Taylor Phinney. Yep, he’s traded in lycra for miles of dirt.
  3. $75 worth of cycling gear from Community Cycles

To you, the donor, “Thank you” for your support, for fueling the passion behind Community Cycles and the future of our cycling community.
