Theft & Locking

The Boulder Police Department has a bicycle registration program to help combat the ongoing problem of bicycle theft in Boulder.

On average over 700 bicycles are reported stolen in Boulder every year and of that number only 20 percent of owners are able to report the serial number of their stolen bicycle. Without the serial number, it is very difficult to prove a recovered bicycle is stolen, or to return it to its owner. The bicycle registration program serves to deter theft and aid in returning recovered property. It is a free program funded by the Boulder Police Department.

As part of the program, your name and contact information is recorded, along with the bicycle make, model and serial number. Bicycle owners receive a copy of their registration information and a tamper-resistent registration sticker will be affixed to a visible area on the bike. The information is then entered into a police database in case the bicycle is ever reported stolen and you need the information.

To register your bicycle, come to either of the following locations:

Boulder Police Department, 1805 33 rd St., 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
Pearl Street Community Police Center, on 16th Street, just south of Pearl Street, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
