Community Cycles Receives Funding to Encourage Commuting by Bike and EBike

sandee@communitycycles.orgNews

We are delighted to have been awarded funding from DRCOG (Denver Regional Council of Governments) for a two year project that will encourage more people to commute by bike and e-bike.

Our project is funded through DRCOG’s Transportation Improvement Program for transportation demand management non-infrastructure projects. “Transportation demand management” seeks to help people get around more efficiently while reducing traffic congestion, vehicle emissions, and fuel consumption.

The project will take place with matching funds from the City of Boulder University of Colorado, Boulder County, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. we’re grateful for the support!

Focus: Bike Commutes Across Boulder County

Our project highlights the network of bike routes that already connect communities across Boulder County. This includes Louisville, Longmont, Erie, Broomfield, and Boulder. We want more people to see just how connected our region is. It actually is easy to get around by bike.

By encouraging riders to explore these routes for everyday travel—not just recreation—we’re showing that bike commuting is a real option for getting to work, school, errands, and beyond. There are safe, scenic paths and growing infrastructure already in place. It’s time to make the most of what Boulder County has built and ride the network that’s ready for you.

The project will highlight and encourage use of major regional bike paths like the US 36 multi-use path between Boulder/Denver. And also the new bike infrastructure now taking shape along Highway 119 from Longmont to Boulder. Together, these improvements will give more people more ways to ride—for commuting, recreation, or simply getting where they need to go.

Reaching People, Strengthening Communities

We are partnering with major local employers—including CU Boulder, Boulder Community Health, and the City of Boulder—along with Boulder County residents who live and work near the US 36 and the new Highway 119 bike corridors. These partnerships will help us reach tens of thousands of people. They are in a perfect position to take advantage of Boulder County’s growing regional bike network.

To make longer-distance bike commutes easier and more appealing, we’ll offer free tune-ups, hands-on mechanic instruction, guided community rides, personalized route planning, and support in finding affordable bicycles and e-bikes. We’ll help remove common barriers—like bike maintenance, confidence, and cost. This will empower more people to make biking part of their daily routine.

By championing these key employers and transportation corridors, we’ll show that regional bike commuting is not only possible but practical. Community members will have access to free bike classes. Classes will prepare both riders and their bikes for long-term, year-round commuting—building skills, confidence, and connection – along with the joy, good health, and fun that are just some of the benefits of bicycling!
