There For You in Boulder County

Community Cycles is expanding its impact across Boulder County this year, increasing our work to improve bike access, provide hands-on education, and strengthen community advocacy so that more people can ride safely and affordably.

More Bikes for Low Income Residents

Community Cycles is partnering with Mobility for All to bring our Earn-a-Bike program to sites operated by the Boulder County Housing Authority. Through this partnership, we will host hands-on education events covering skills like Fix-a-Flat and the ABC Quick Check. We’ll also schedule bike tune-up days where community members can get help adjusting brakes and gears, repairing flat tires, and taking care of other common maintenance needs.

The Community Cycles’ Earn-a-Bike Program was created to provide equitable access to bicycles throughout our community. Over 50 bikes are earned each year and is available to anyone in need of a bike. If you or someone you know is in need of a bike, please visit our page for more info.

More Bike Recycling

We’re excited to be part of upcoming Hard-to-Recycle and Community Clean Up events across the area, where we’ll be on site collecting your old or outgrown bicycles and bike gear. This is a great chance to keep them out of the waste stream and give them a second life.

What kind of bike things does Community Cycles accept?
All of it! We accept anything and everything bike-related, in any condition:

  • Adult bikes AND kids bikes
  • Parts
  • Bike accessories like bike racks, car racks, trainers, panniers and other bags, baskets, etc
  • Bike shoes and attire
  • Tires and tubes (we’ll recycle your old ones for FREE!)
  • #4 and #5 plastic sports bottles
  • And more!

Our team will make sure usable items are refurbished, repaired, or responsibly recycled so they can continue supporting people who ride in our community.

You can also drop off any of these items at our Shop: Thursdays – Sundays 11am-5:30pm, 2601 Spruce St, Unit B (back of the building), Boulder.

More Education

We offer a range of bike workshops and resources throughout Boulder County. These programs provide practical skills and guidance to help you get around town and commute to work by bike. Topics include basic bike maintenance, route planning, and strategies for riding safely in traffic, all aimed at making bike commuting more comfortable, accessible, and sustainable for people in our community.

Here are a couple of places to catch us this spring and summer:

Join us at the Town of Erie Arbor Day/Earth Day Celebration on April 25th to learn about bike safety.

Support for commuting by bicycle throughout Boulder County is a project that we’ll be working on in 2026-2027 with funding from DRCOG (Denver Regional Council of Governments). Our project highlights the network of bike routes that already connect communities across Boulder County. We want more people to see just how connected our region is for cyclists. Read more about it here.

At Community Cycles, we offer bike care & repair workshops available for anyone throughout the Boulder metro area. Check out what’s coming up on our calendar and find a complete list of our offerings here.

Plus we’re already gearing up for Walk & Bike Month with Bike to Work Day on June 24th. We’ve grown participation in Bike to Work Day across the county from 1 or 2 breakfast stations outside of the city of Boulder to local businesses hosting throughout Longmont, Lafayette, Superior and Broomfield.

More Advocacy for Safer Cycling

We are monitoring and will become more involved with this vision and action plan to help public transit meet the needs of our growing county into the future: Linking Boulder County. This is currently in the planning stage. We’ll give input on mobility and transit options, more van options, and the need for increased frequency on transit routes.

We are encouraging Boulder County residents to give input on the North Foothills Bikeway between Boulder and Lyons. There is an open house May 19th, 4:30-7:00pm at the Boulder Main Library at 1001 Arapahoe. While we are not actively involved with advocating for this, it is one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Boulder County for cyclists.

And of course we are excited for the Diagonal Highway Bikeway to be completed in January 2027. This CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Project development is a nine‑mile, off‑street path between Boulder and Longmont, giving cyclists and pedestrians a safer, more sustainable way to travel.

All of these combine to create a safer, more inviting place to ride bicycles and get around Boulder County.

More Connected Communities Through Biking

Together, these efforts reflect Community Cycles’ commitment to building a stronger, more connected biking community across Boulder County. By expanding access to bicycles, keeping bike equipment in circulation, providing practical education, and engaging in conversations about safer transportation infrastructure, we’re working to ensure that more people can rely on bicycles as an affordable, healthy, and sustainable way to get around. We look forward to connecting with residents at events, workshops, and advocacy opportunities throughout the year.
