At our core, we believe that everyday choices can spark meaningful change. That’s why our mission goes beyond simply getting more people on bikes — it’s about rethinking the entire lifecycle of a bicycle.
By prioritizing reuse and recycling, we give bikes and bike parts a second (and third) life. We keep many tons of perfectly usable equipment out the landfill by refurbishing pre-owned bicycles, salvaging quality components, and responsibly recycling materials. Every bike we restore and every part we reclaim multiplies the impact: fewer raw materials consumed, a smaller carbon footprint overall, and a circular approach to mobility that’s better for our communities and the planet
Reuse: Giving Every Bike a Second Life
Our goal is simple but ambitious: reuse as much of every donated bike and part as we possibly can. Every donated bike represents materials, energy, and craftsmanship that have already been invested. By keeping those bikes and components in circulation, we reduce waste, conserve raw resources, and lower the demand for new manufacturing.
If a donated bike can’t be restored as a whole, we carefully break it down piece by piece. Usable components are cleaned, tested, and organized for future rebuilds. Frames, wheels, drivetrains, and small parts all get a second (or third) life whenever possible. We responsibly recycle anything truly beyond repair. Nothing goes to waste unless it absolutely has to — because every part matters, and every bike has value.
Recycle: Turning Bike Parts and Plastics Into Something New
Here’s a look at what we recycle and how it finds new purpose:
- Bicycle tires, tubes, wires, electronics and more go to Eco-Cycle/CHARM for repurposing or recycling.
- Metal goes to a metal recycler.
- Drop off your #4 and #5 plastic sports bottle at our Shop to be upcycled into something new to serve future generations with our partner, HyraPak.
Ride: Toward a Safer, Cleaner Future
Beyond our shop walls, we’re all about keeping people rolling — and keeping carbon emissions down while we’re at it. We teach bike maintenance so folks feel confident fixing what they’ve got. We offer affordable bikes and parts so cost isn’t a barrier. And we speak up for safer streets, pushing for separated bike lanes and multi-use paths that make riding feel normal, not risky.
When people feel capable and safe, biking becomes a real option for everyday life — commuting, errands, meeting friends. That’s how change happens: one ride at a time.
Want to help grow this movement? Donate your time. Pass along your old or unused bikes. Clear out those extra parts and accessories. Together, we can build a community where riding a bike is easy, accessible, and part of daily life.
